How about starting 2020 with a detoxifying drink that is both nourishing and grounding? It’s sweet, spicy, and oh so creamy! The magic ingredient is turmeric, of course, but this recipe also has other super nourishing, anti-inflammatory, and immuno-supportive ingredients like ginger, cinnamon, and raw honey.

There are so many amazing things to know about turmeric, but the gist of it is this:

  • It’s the most studied plant food in the world.
  • It’s an anti-inflammatory superfood.
  • It’s one of the best liver-detoxifying spices available – stimulating phase 2 liver detox pathways.
  • It gives curry it’s rich yellow color, but not it’s flavor.
  • It stimulates bile production (this just means better detoxification, as bile is the carrier of toxins)
  • It’s nutrient-dense – contains calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
  • It’s benefits stem from a powerful plant chemical: curcumin.

Before the question is asked “why no black pepper Andrea?” let me just say that you do not need to add black pepper to this drink to enhance the absorption benefits of turmeric. This is a misconception. As long as you use the “whole” turmeric root, as is the case if you are using 100% ground organic turmeric root, the natural turmerones [that aid in the absorption of the curcuminoids] will be present. Thanks Mother Nature!
