Juicing on the weekends has become a bit of a ritual. I have a bit more time in the mornings and just enjoy the process of creating something that will nourish my body and give it some extra love 🙂 Although I don’t actually own a juicer, I have found an inexpensive way of making my own fresh cold-pressed juices at home with the handy use of cheesecloth.

It’s super simple. Just add the fruits and veggies you want to “juice” into a blender; you might need to use a little H2O to get the ingredients moving (anywhere between 1/4-1/2 cup of water). Next, all you do is strain through cheesecloth. You can also use a nutbag or a wire mesh strainer.

The star ingredient in this detoxifying juice is the beet. Beets are hands down a detox superfood! They protect liver cells and bile ducts from free radical damage and are also rich in a phytonutrient called betaine which supports detoxification pathways in the body. Beets amazing health benefits don’t stop here! They are also rich in fiber, iron, folate and the trifecta of blood pressure lowering minerals: calcium, magnesium and potassium!

The other ingredients in the juice deserve some mention as well:

  • Apples – hydrating and detoxifying; rich in fiber and natural plant polyphenols that protect cells from free radical damage and inflammation.
  • Carrots – detoxifying; rich in fiber and carotenoids including beta-carotene which help stimulate bile to flow and remove wastes.
  • Celery – hydrating and detoxifying; rich in vitamin A, K, and potassium as well as antioxidants phenolic acid and flavonoids preventing cellular damage from free radicals
  • Ginger – anti-inflammatory, immune-enhancing, natural antibiotic; rich in potassium and manganese.
