This will take your breakfast (or dessert) to a whole other level! A compote is simply a fruit sauce, in this case, mixed berry. It’s delicious on plain yogurt, homemade pancakes (try my Super Awesome Gluten-Free Pancakes), sprouted toast, your favorite dairy-free ice cream, and more!

One of my favorite breakfast these days is this berry compote stirred into coconut milk yogurt (I like So Delicious Unsweetened Vanilla), my homemade granola, and a couple of spoonfuls of ground flaxseed. SO Yummy!!

Berry Compote

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups organic mixed berries any combination of sliced strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and/or blackberries
  • 4 teaspoons sweetener of choice (maple syrup, honey, coconut sugar, monkfruit)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

Instructions
 

  • In a small saucepan, stir together berries, sweetner of choice, and lemon juice over medium heat. Berries will start to release their juices after a minute or two.
  • Simmer for about 10 minutes. Berries will break down and juices will thicken.
  • Set aside to cool. Store in a glass jar in the fridge.
